Our Story
Where We Come From
Garrett grew up around the restaurant and real estate businesses of his grandfather, Larry Fugate, founder of Fugate Enterprises, and his father, Todd Fugate, a longtime Sonic franchise operator and commercial property owner. That background shaped his interest in development and his appreciation for how location, site design, and real estate decisions affect a business.
Before founding Gate Development, Garrett spent six years at Christie Development Associates, working with national and regional retailers on site selection, ground-up development, redevelopment, leasing, acquisitions, and investment sales. His experience also includes securing public incentives such as CID, TIF, STRA, property tax abatements, and IRB bonds.
Today, Gate Development serves as a preferred development partner for retailers, bringing a hands-on approach to identifying sites, structuring projects, and moving development opportunities from initial evaluation through completion.
Garrett resides in Overland Park, Kansas with his wife Maddie and their three children, Riggs, Gus, and Scarlett.
